Cynthia Sophia Amy Cometti, affectionately known as Cindy, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026, in Wall, NJ. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known her.
Cindy was born on March 6, 1964 in Newark, NJ, to Fayette Delaine Holbert Cometti and Angelo Cometti.
After graduating from Abraham Clark High School in Roselle, NJ, Cindy began working at Ogilvy and Mather Advertising in Manhattan. Later, she built a career of 25 years as an Executive Assistant to the CEO of Northwestern Mutual Insurance in Summit, NJ.
Her ambition was equaled only by her sense of fun and thrill for life. She was truly the life of the party, and her personality shined brightest while going out with her friends. Cindy perfected the art of living life to the fullest and experiencing the here-and-now. Being a Jersey Girl through and through, her favorite beach was Belmar. Cindy shared her love for the beach as a beloved aunt and great-aunt.
Cindy traveled across the USA, Europe, and the Caribbean, but her favorite destination was always Key West, FL. She shared many of these travels and adventures with her then-husband, Robert Schmidt. Later in life, Cindy lived with her partner, Michael Ebert, in Scotch Plains, where car racing became her new passion. She loved NASCAR and going to races with Michael.
Throughout her life, Cindy loved to express herself through fashion and embraced her natural talent for making chic style seem effortless. More than her beautiful blonde hair, or her big blue eyes, Cindy’s most iconic accessory was her wonderful sense of humor. Her larger-than-life personality and bright laughter lit up the world in a way that will truly be missed.
Cindy is predeceased by her parents and her partner, Michael. Cindy is survived by her sister, Veralynn, and her husband, David Megill; her niece and nephew, Stephani Ansley and Samuel Megill, and their families. She leaves behind many loved ones who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. A private service will be held in her honor.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone at Care One in Wall, Preferred Care in Wall, and Swan Hospice, for the compassion, kindness, and wonderful care they provided Cindy in her final months.
