Charles T. “Poppy” Behm, 90, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2020 surrounded by his family at his daughter’s home where he resided in Brielle, NJ. He was born to John and Anna Mager Behm on November 14, 1929 in Wilkes Barre, PA. Charles served in the Field Artillery Branch of the United States Army. In 1951 he moved to Elizabeth, NJ where he raised his four children with his then wife, Ann Woronka of 26 years. Charles worked as a machinist before settling in Brielle, NJ in 1992 upon retiring.
As the master of storytelling, he had riddles and jokes for days – a visit with Charlie was always animated, to say the least. He had a jovial presence and spent most of his days laughing over good spirits with family. He was an avid lover of trains and horses. Summers in Saratoga were a family tradition.
Charles is predeceased by his parents John & Anna Mager Behm, daughter Ann Marie Behm-O’Donnell and brothers Donald & Daniel Behm.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Beth Westrol and her husband Randy of Brielle, NJ; two sons, Charles Behm and his wife Karen, and Thomas Behm, all of Warren, NJ. Charles is also survived by brother Bernard Behm of Wilkes Barre, PA and two sisters Betty Mack of Denver, CO and Anna Behm Pulaski of Elizabeth, NJ; five grandchildren Heather and Jason Westrol (wife, Alaura) Jacey Sanchez, Douglas (wife, Melissa) and Haley Behm; his great grandchildren, Sabrina and Julian Sanchez; many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
