Catherine "Dollie" Burns (nee Oswald) died on April 13, 2015, surrounded by family at JSUMC.
Mrs. Burns, a loving and devoted wife and mother was predeceased by her late husband Martin J. Burns Jr. and their son Daniel P. Burns. She was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. and while attending St. Johns University N.Y., she married and moved to the Jersey Shore. Mrs. Burns made Bay Head her lifelong residence, the town she and their many friends, helped shape and enjoyed. Her role as mother and homemaker were her life's joy and devotion. She was a master seamstress, adept at knit and crochet, versed in all things decoys and carvers as well as being a knowledgeable and avid gardener. She was also an accomplished golfer and recollections of that "special hole in one" always brought a smile. She worked for the BHIA for a time, was a member of the Bay Head Bridge Club and volunteered and served on numerous committees as her five children went through school. Dollie was a valued and respected member of her community. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was admired by those fortunate to know her. We will remember her mindful advice and sincere spirit of caring. By those who knew and loved her, she will be missed. She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, Bay Head.
Mrs. Burns is survived by her son, Martin J. Burns III, Spring Lake, daughters, Margaret B. Statler , Delray Beach, Fla. Catharine B. Gusmer, Clover, S.C. , Jennifer E. Burns, Point Pleasant, nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
