Carol Ann Fury

September 1, 1941 — February 20, 2018

Carol Ann (Coakley) Fury, 76, passed away peacefully at her home in Bay Head, NJ surrounded by family on February 20, 2018. Carol was born in Newark and raised in Belmar, where she graduated from St. Rose Grammar and High schools (Class of 59). Growing up, Carol spent all of her free time outside, preferably at the beach body surfing the waves. She married and moved to New York and California, returning to the Jersey Shore to raise her daughter, Shannon. Carol served as a bookkeeper for several area car dealerships, eventually retiring from Coast Buick in Wall after 20 years where she had many nice friends. Carol lived a full life devoted to her immediate and extended family, all of whom will deeply miss her. She had a quick wit, a wicked sense of humor and a fabulous laugh. Carol forgave easily and never held a grudge, even if you forgot to record the Westminster Dog Show or figure skating on TV. She liked to read Stephen King books and watch sci-fi movies, especially Alien and its sequels, and to play cross-word puzzles and mahjong. Carol also loved coffee, a lot, and insisted that one must pour the milk in the mug first, then add percolated coffee, so as not to scald the milk. She also loved hydrangeas and the color pink. Carol was predeceased by her parents, William and Margaret Coakley, and by her infant sister Anne. She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Adam Curtis with whom she lived, and by her cherished grandchildren Tanner, Owen and Coakley Curtis who brought her so much joy. Carol is also survived by her treasured sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia Keane, Ursula Coakley and Barry Frankel, and Margaret and Richard Breton. She is also missed by her clan of awesome nieces, nephews, their spouses, and her grandnieces and grandnephews, with whom she shared all of lifes happiest occasions. We know she is in heaven today endlessly teasing her late nephew Billy Keane. Carol was also lucky to have a best friend since childhood in Maureen Stout Kearns. A Celebration of Carols life for family and friends will be held at a later date. Please honor Carols memory by being kind to each other, by getting a colonoscopy if you are over 50 and by enjoying the perfect cup of coffee. Services are entrusted to Jersey Shore Cremation Service, 36 Broad Street, Manasquan, NJ.
