Carol K. Donovan (nee Bace), 93, of Freehold Township, formerly of South Plainfield, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2021.
Carol was born in Union and graduated from Union High School. She worked for New Jersey Bell as a telephone operator, leaving to raise her family. She was active in her church throughout her life as God was her guiding light. She had a way of making us all have a deep faith as hers was strong and steadfast. She lived her life looking for ways to help others. Carol always had a kind word to say to everyone and was a good, gentle, trusting friend to many. Carol will be remembered for her sweet spirit and kind smile. As one friend said, “she always made everyone feel good inside.”
As a mother with a growing family, she could be found at the sewing machine, making dresses for her daughters as well as Halloween and school play costumes. Carol was an avid gardener and her creativity led to the creation of the lollipop gardens she grew with her grandchildren. They would plant the special seeds together and soon lollipops would poke through the ground much to their joy and amazement. She could often be heard singing the song “I love you a bushel and a peck” to her grandchildren as well. A song that brings a smile to each of them to this day. Her family is what brought the most joy to her life.
Carol was a devoted wife, predeceased by the love of her life, Walter, her loving husband of 64 years and her sister, Janet Ross. She is survived by her 3 daughters, Diane O’Brien and her husband Patrick of Liverpool, NY and Sebastian, FL, Nancy Power and her husband Jim of Tinton Falls, NJ and Jude Donovan of Oakwood, GA., 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, her sister Audrey Bowler of Hackettstown, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Due to COVID19 restrictions, private services will be held by her family. Donations can be made in Carol’s memory to either Alzheimers.org or your local food bank.
