Bonnie Sue McGonegle (Deimling) age 71 died March 11, 2021 of ovarian cancer with her family by her side at home in Sea Girt, New Jersey. Bonnie was married to James McGonegle in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1969 and was the loving mother of Doctor Shane McGonegle (wife Catherine Hess McGonegle) and Heather McGonegle Drosner (husband John Drosner). Bonnie loved spending time with her kids and grandchildren Catherine, Mary, John, AnnieBelle, and Louis and exchanging letters with them. She was a positive voice to her family and friends and lived her life with optimism and openness to learning and trying new activities. Some favorite quotes of Bonnie are: “You may be bigger than I am, but I’m tougher!” [to her son] and “Let not your heart be troubled.” [to her daughter.
Bonnie was born June 29, 1949 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Carl and Mary Deimling (Coy). Bonnie was predeceased by her parents and siblings Carol Jean Thomson (Deimling), Dianne Mountain (Deimling), and Joe Deimling. She leaves behind siblings Carl Deimling, Bill Deimling, Theresa Knowlton (Deimling), Sandra Kiefer (Deimling), and Kimberly Swift (Deimling). Bonnie had so many wonderful memories with her siblings and was grateful to see them and have their support before she passed. She was also grateful for the support of her in-law siblings and her dear friends from high school and all over during her cancer treatment. Many sent heartfelt messages of encouragement to her in the weeks before she passed.
Bonnie attended Guardian Angels Catholic grade school and McNicholas Catholic High School in Cincinnati, OH along with her eight siblings. Bonnie met her husband Jim in high school and was married for 51 years. She worked as an administrative assistant for the IRS, Procter & Gamble, and NBC Channel 5’s The Bob Braun Show. Bonnie and her husband Jim took an adventure to live in Santa Barbara, CA and Wilkes-Barre, PA before having children. Bonnie and Jim began raising their family in Lebanon, OH and then relocated to Indianapolis, IN and later Kokomo, IN where her husband Jim worked as engineer in the automotive industry. At the age of 36 Bonnie started and later graduated college with highest honors from Ivy Technical College in Kokomo, IN. Bonnie was at the forefront of personal computer software training in the 1990s and worked as a software training instructor for TedCo in Kokomo, IN before starting her own software training company, Automated Office Services, Inc. In 1991 Bonnie and Jim moved their family back to the Cincinnati area in Loveland, OH. Bonnie and her business were recognized in a featured article by the Cincinnati Business Courier. Bonnie later joined The Ford Motor Company of Batavia, OH and Sharonville, OH to lead their safety training program.
Bonnie and her husband Jim relocated to Sea Girt, NJ in 2016 to be near their daughter who soon after met her husband, and Bonnie was able to make many great memories with them and her grandson at the beach and pool.
Bonnie loved the theater and wrote, directed, and acted in several musicals starting in high school and into her adult life. She acted in several plays including Peter Pan, A Chorus Line, Bye Bye Birdie, Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Angel Follies in Cincinnati. She helped restore the Loveland Theater Company in the early 2000’s with her production and direction of the copyrighted musical “Remember the Love” that she wrote about her parents. She started the adult theater group at Saint Columban Parish of Loveland, OH and wrote and directed the play “Journey to Christmas” and also an Easter play. Bonnie’s lovely voice and lullabies will live on with her children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
She was an active parishioner at Holy Spirit (Indianapolis,IN), St. Joan of Arc (Kokomo, IN), and Saint Columban (Loveland, OH) where her children attended school. At Holy Spirit and St. Joan of Arc she organized the annual student festival Ram Rouse and started a student-parent newsletter at St. Joan of Arc. At St. Columban she created and instructed the personal computer and typing curriculum for students with the help of other parents as instructors.
Bonnie was recently an active parishioner at Saint Catharine Church (Sea Girt, NJ) as the President of The Mary’s Child Group that volunteered and raised funds to support new mothers in need and adoptive services, including Rachel’s Ministry and other pro-life charitable organizations. In 2019 she was awarded the Champions For Life Award by Monsignor Flynn of Saint Mark’s (Sea Girt, NJ). Bonnie was a champion for life and wrote and published the book “Baby’s Breath,” a pro-life novel under the pen-name B.D. McDuff.
Bonnie had a competitive sporty side and loved playing baseball and tennis as a child and later being active at the Loveland, OH Bike Trail with her husband and YMCA swimming pool and Silver Sneakers aerobic classes. She loved reading news and playing word games.
Bonnie made friends wherever she lived and found joy hosting parties for her friends and family and cooking for the and trying new recipes. She was known for some her favorite party appetizers - “The Deimling Dip” and “Hanky Pankies.” She loved to have a glass of iced tea or Chardonnay and catch up with good friends and her sisters. She was embraced as a dear friend by her YMCA “Jersey Girls” and loved them dearly for their wit, lively spirit, and genuineness.
Bonnie’s life will be celebrated in New Jersey at a date to be determined. Masses have been offered up by friends for Bonnie at St. Mark’s Church (Sea Girt, NJ) at 11 am on April 12th, May 6th, and May 24th. A funeral Mass and burial will be held Friday, April 9th at 10:30 am Guardian Angels Church and Cemetery in Cincinnati, OH, where she will be buried near her parents. There will be a visitation in the church at 9:30 am before the service.
