Elizabeth “Betty” Vasile, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 23 in Eatontown. Betty was born in 1924 in Newark and lived in Roselle before moving to the Jersey Shore. After graduating Long Branch High School, Betty attended the Traphagen School of Fashion Design in NYC, where she studied fashion illustration. She later worked for B. Altman and Lord & Taylor in NYC as a fashion illustrator. During World War II, Betty held civilian jobs with the US Army at Fort Monmouth and at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in MD. With her husband Salvatore, she raised four children in Eatontown, where she resided for many years. She was a communicant of St. Dorothea’s Church and employed by Steinbach at their distribution center.
Betty was predeceased by her husband Salvatore Vasile and her daughter Carol Vasile. Surviving are her daughters Christine and Kathy Vasile, son Paul Vasile, daughter-in-law Sandra Clark, grandson Evan Clark Vasile, nephews Patrick and Michael Griffin and their families, and brother-in-law Thomas Griffin.
A memorial service followed by a repast will be held on Friday, April 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Branches, 123 Monmouth Rd., West Long Branch.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Monmouth County Association for Retarded Citizens.
