Manasquan, NJ

Betty K. Govel, 97, passed away peacefully at home on May 5, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in West Virginia, Betty made Manasquan her home for the past 74 years, living in the house lovingly built by her beloved husband, Edward Govel, and his father. Together they created a home filled with warmth, family, friendship, and countless cherished memories.

Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose kindness and generosity touched everyone who knew her. She worked for many years in real estate with the Ward Wight Agency, where she became well known and loved throughout the Manasquan community. Her friendly spirit, caring nature, and genuine interest in others made lasting impressions on neighbors, friends, and clients alike.

She was an extraordinary cook whose kitchen was the heart of her home. Betty became especially famous among family and friends for her delicious banana bread and chocolate chip cookies, gifts she joyfully shared with so many throughout the area. Her home was always open, welcoming generations of loved ones around her table.

Betty is survived by her four children: daughter Cindy Parker and her husband George; son Stephen and his wife Lisa; daughter Marsha Elmo; and son John and his wife Jill. She was the adored grandmother of Chris, Melissa, Alex, Stephen, Michael, Emily, twins John and Jade, Zack, Abbey, Spencer, and Holly. She also leaves behind nine beloved great-grandchildren, with two more joyfully expected.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church of Manasquan, 16 Virginia Avenue, Manasquan, NJ 08736.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Manasquan or Hackensack Meridian Health Foundation/Hospice, 343 Thornall Street, 7th Floor, Edison, New Jersey 08837.

Betty’s love, generosity, devotion to family and her faith in God will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her favorite sayings were “Everything works and nothing hurts” and “God is Good”.
