Barbara H. Scott, 78, a long-time resident of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, passed away February 6 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.
Known for her warm sense of humor, generous spirit and compelling stories, Barbara had a passion for boating, the beach, travel, music, reading, and above all else, family.
Born in 1941 in Elizabeth, NJ, Barbara was a member of the 1958 graduating class of Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School and attended Mary Washington College in Virginia. She returned to school decades later to earn her Bachelor of Arts from Thomas Edison State College in 1996.
Barbara's many career paths included fashion buyer for Hahne & Company, realtor and leasing agent for R.E. Scott Company and Bob Warncke Associates, business manager for MCOSS Housecalls home health service, co-owner of TG Mumms gift shop in Spring Lake Heights, executive director of the Monmouth Conservation Foundation, and vice president of Direct Success in Wall. Barbara was active in local politics and served as a fundraiser for the American Heart Association, MCOSS, and Christian Brothers Academy. She also worked at The Friendship Center and The Music Academy in Santa Barbara, California, and spent a year living in Paris and traveling Europe with friends and family (her European adventures are chronicled in Madame Barbara Scotts Blog).
In recent years, despite health complications, she remained active with her book club, organizing theme parties, and playing Mahjong.
Barbaras loving family includes her son, Robert Scott of Manasquan, his wife Andi and their son Augie; son Charles Scott of Manasquan, his wife Deborah and their children Drew and Gwen; son Steven Scott of Miami; and sister Susan Ruane of Brielle and her children Wendy Kowalchik, husband Thomas, and children Maggie, Luke, and William; and Daniel Ruane, wife Kelley, and children Jaxson and Owen.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Scott in 1988.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church in Bay Head at 11:00 am on Friday, February 22.
