Arthur T. Galvin Jr. died at the age of 82 on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. He was born in 1931 to Arthur and Adeline Darling Galvin in Brooklyn and was a lifelong resident of New York City until recently moving to Asbury Park. Arthur served as a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He began his professional career with the New York Telephone Company as an installer, becoming a Data Sales Manager and retiring from NYNEX in HR management. He received a BS from City College of New York.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, B. Yvonne Clayton; 4 children, Arthur III (Greg Ortega) of Jersey City. Harold Galvin (Peggy) of Minneapolis, MN, Jessica Jorgensen (Chris) of Sebastopol, CA, and Timothy Galvin of Ventura, CA. Other living relatives include two granddaughters, Emily and Claire Galvin; two sisters, Rose Christy, Schaghticoke, NY, and Edith Conroy, Colts Neck; one sister-in-law, Ruby Howard, Long Branch; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Internment will be in Monmouth Memorial Park Mausoleum, Tinton Falls. A memorial service celebrating his life will take place at 12 noon Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 at Memorial Baptist Church, 141 West 115th St., New York, NY. Arthur was a good and gentle man who will be missed by many. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in his name to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association .
