Anthony Iwaszko, affectionately known as “Knute”, passed away on January 8, 2026 at the age of 90. He was born and raised in Philadelphia and graduated from Pennsylvania State University. Knute began his professional career as a chemist and later transitioned into a successful laboratory equipment sales manager.
However, it was in retirement that he truly found his calling. Knute became the owner, proprietor, waiter, dishwasher, and concierge of the Seaflower Bed & Breakfast Inn and Sandcastle Cottages in Belmar, NJ. He embraced these roles with his characteristic enthusiasm and charm making each guest feel like family.
A man of remarkable talents and boundless curiosity, Knute was a Life Master and national champion bridge player. He authored The 401 K Millionaire, sharing his insights into financial planning with clarity and wit. His likeness lives on in public art – he served as a model for several J. Seward Johnson statues, capturing his spirit for all to see.
Knute’s zest for life extended beyond his professional accomplishments. He was an avid runner who regularly competed in many local races and even a marathon. His adventurous nature led to travels around the globe in search of new experiences - and the world’s best margarita. Whether playing handball or experimenting with new hobbies like candle making, bread baking, or attempting foreign languages, Knute approached each endeavor with zeal.
Known for his intelligence, friendliness, and legendary sense of humor, Knute brought laughter wherever he went. His elaborate April Fool’s Day pranks along with family trips and camping adventures, have become favorite stories.
Knute is survived by his wife and love of his life, Patricia O’Keefe of Ocean Township, NJ (formerly of Belmar) with whom he raised their blended family, his pride and joy: Beth Piskora (Pete Rogers) of Bloomfield, NJ; Lynn Castle of Wall, NJ; Molly Hess (Karl) of Raleigh, NC; Anthony Iwaszko of Arlington, VA; and John Piskora (Katherine Todd) of New York, NY. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren: John, Ryan, Cynthia, Erich, Halle, Ethan and Stella – who brought immense pride and joy to his life. He will be missed by his sisters MaryAnn Demartinis and Helen “Honey” McCaffrey as well as his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Knute was predeceased by his parents, his stepfather, his sister Theresa and his brother Stephen.
Services will be private and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In honor of Knute’s love for his many pet dogs and cats, consider a donation to the Monmouth County SPCA, 260 Wall St., Eatontown, NJ 07724.
