Anne Lynch McHugh died peacefully on Friday, March 21, 2025, at home with her daughters by her side. She was born in Glasgow, Scotland on September 11, 1941, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Maguire. Anne and her family came to America in 1949 on the Queen Mary to join their father and Aunt Joan who lived in Brooklyn, NY. She later moved to Aberdeen, NJ, where she and Ed raised their four daughters in the I section of Strathmore in a house with beautiful gardens that welcomed all visitors.
Anne had a love of shopping, fashion, chocolate, and a hot cup of tea. She enjoyed long drives and always wanted to take the scenic route. Her home was the gathering place for her daughters Maryrose, Katrina, Anne, Tara and their families. Her ten grandchildren, Bryce, Jennifer, Gavin, Connor, Spenser, Deaglan, Kate, Olivia, Craig and Tommy, were her favorite guests. Granny always made them feel like they were the most important thing in her life, which they were. She was there in times of joy and difficulty, listening, and helping guide them to grow into the wonderful young men and women they have become.
Anne spent many years working in the Financial Services industry in New York City and could talk shop with the best of them. Her favorite job was working for I.W. “Tubby” Burnham, founder of Drexel Burnham and then at Burnham Securities where she retired in 2003.
After retiring Anne was actively involved in Kids Alley. Her kindness and generosity extended to everyone she met whether you knew her for a day or her entire life. She would literally give you the shirt off her back if you needed it. She will be greatly missed by all.
In addition to her parents, Anne was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edward A. McHugh and brothers Gerald and Joseph Maguire. She is survived by sisters Joan Hinklein of Matawan, NJ and Maryrose Nelson of Wayne, NJ. Maryrose and Tony Cutrino of Haddon Heights, NJ, Katrina McPherson of Aberdeen, NJ and John McPherson of Baltimore, MD, Anne and Young Nam of Denver, CO, and Tara and Joseph Cassidy of Little Silver, NJ.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 11:45 am at Tower Hill Church, 255 Harding Road, Red Bank, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Anne McHugh to Kids Alley.
