Andrew “Gumpy” Fornino, 73, of Long Branch, passed away peacefully on March 2nd, 2025 at Monmouth Medical Center.
Gump was born on September 8th, 1951 to James “Big Jim” and Edith Mae Fornino. A lifelong resident of Long Branch, Gump attended Long Branch High School and went on to work in many well-known establishments throughout the city including Russomano’s Body Shop, Caruso Construction, his very own business Handy Andy, and Gormley Antiques.
Gumpy was a devoted husband to Dorothy “Dori” Reh Fornino for almost 43 years and a loving father to Justin Fornino and his girlfriend Samantha Robinson as well as many beloved pets throughout the years; most recently his dog Ruby, cat Lucy, and grand-dog Rosey. Gump is also survived by his brother Michael Fornino, sister-in-law Diane Paresso, nieces and nephews and many beloved friends and family members. He was preceded by his mother, father and siblings James Fornino, Edith Ann Fornino and Mary Fornino.
Gump was well-known throughout Long Branch as a lover of music, motorcycles, and cars. A talented singer and guitarist, at his peak Gumpy could often be found cruising across the country on one of his Triumph motorcycles or lighting up the local stages with many friends including two of his best friends Slick Aguilar and Paulie Caruso.
Gump loved spending time with family and friends, especially throwing big parties and jamming on the back porch with his son Justin. Gump will be remembered for his loveable stubbornness, top-notch story telling, good-hearted nature and desire to live life at 100mph.
Details for a Celebration of Life gathering in honor of Gumpy will be announced in the coming weeks.
Gumpy will be deeply missed by all who knew him and his memory will live on in the hearts of so many family members and friends.
