Paul Ternosky

July 14, 1934 — October 4, 2025

It is with profound sadness and deep regret that we share the passing of our beloved Paul Ternosky. We, his family, loved him as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who left us on October 4, 2025, at the age of 91.

He was born on July 14, 1934, in the industrial town of Berwick, PA. He was the youngest of nine children. At an early age, he worked numerous jobs to pay for his education at Bloomsburg State Teachers College where he graduated in 1959. At the time, he married his beautiful wife of sixty-six years, Agnes Hovancak, also from Berwick, PA. It was also at that time the Brick Township School Systems was established, and he was one of the first teachers hired to work in the district. He was a beacon of light and hope in the Brick community, shaping the lives of numerous children at Emma Havens Young School, Veterans Memorial Middle School, and Midstream’s Elementary School for 35 years. He was very popular with his students and was frequently requested by students centering the 5th and 6th grade. His hobbies were spending time with his family, teaching his children to play sports and attending all of their games. He truly was involved in all aspects of his children and grandchildren's upbringing - molding their futures to become respected contributing members of our society.

We, his devoted family, received an inspiration which he passed on to all of us. He gave us strength in times of trouble, wisdom in times of uncertainty, and sharing in times of happiness. Surrounded by his loving family, he was a man who truly spoke his mind and exuded an aura of strength, decency, practicality, and compassion.

He is survived by his loving wife Agnes, son and daughter-in-law Paul and Julie, and daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Larry Stepp. He was the proud grandfather of Truman Horwitz, Paige Aubry, Paul Jr., Janessa and Jaidyn Ternosky who will continue to honor his legacy by living a life which exemplifies the ideals and desires he strove throughout his life to achieve.

When I think of my father, a quote comes to mind from the timeless Hollywood classic The Wizard of Oz. “A man’s heart is not judged by how much he loves, but by how much he is loved by others.” Paul Ternosky was always recognized and appreciated by the numerous people whose lives he touched.
