John (Giovanni) Mazzola, 90, of Bradley Beach, New Jersey passed away peacefully on his own terms on February 22, 2025 surrounded by his family members.
John was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on May 27, 1934 to parents, Philip and Giovaninna (DeMarco) John enlisted in the Army in 1954 and spent 2 years in Germany. Upon discharge he returned to his job at Western Electric until 1988. John married Patricia Smagalski in February 1957. They first resided in Jersey City and then purchased their first home in Old Bridge, NJ before moving to Freehold NJ. John retired to Bradley Beach in 1992 to a condo that, as he stated “…is 600 steps from the beach”. He spent many years metal detecting along area beaches. He loved finding trinkets for his seven grandchildren to plunder through as well as finding family heirlooms and returning them to their owners.
John enjoyed his many trips on the Senior Bus to Atlantic City. He went so many times that he became a VIP at the Golden Nugget. He always returned home without regret and a few extra dollars in his pocket. Preceding John in death are his parents Philip and Giovaninna (Demarco), his wife of 26 years Patricia Alice, his brothers Joey and Tony, his sister Gina (Louise) his son, Michael, and longtime partner Eileen Blackmore.
Remaining to cherish John's memory, and amazing Italian recipes, are his brother, Philip Mazzola (Cynthia), children, Paul (Sandy), Patricia/Tisha, John (Lynn), Robert (Lisa), and his grandchildren, Erica & Brian Mazzola, Aimee Wright, Charlie Keim, Jr., Victoria Bender and Grace & Hezekiah Mazzola. And his seven great-grandchildren.
The family is eternally grateful for all of the love and support provided to John over the years by his many close nephews and nieces.
Per John’s wishes there will be a Celebration of Life later this year and his ashes will be spread on the ocean.
Services are entrusted to Jersey Shore Cremation, 43 Taylor Avenue, Manasquan, NJ.
