Caryl Rose (Gilboy) O’Gara, 88, of Gettysburg PA died Friday, October 10, 2025 at Sunnyside Manor in Wall, NJ.
Born March 13, 1937 in Taylor PA, she was the daughter of Thomas and Stella (Patoka) Gilboy. She was married to the late Thomas M. F. O’Gara with whom she shared 42 wonderful years. Together, they raised their family in Spotswood, NJ and eventually enjoyed some years traveling abroad.
Caryl had a long and successful career as an actuarial programmer. In 1990, Tom and Caryl moved to Gettysburg PA where for the next decade they owned and operated the Baladerry Inn.
Following the death of her husband, Caryl was an active volunteer in the Gettysburg community. Her lifelong love of plants inspired 30 years of dedicated service with the Gettysburg Garden Club, where she held various leadership roles. Caryl expanded her knowledge by studying for and becoming a National Flower Show Judge. Caryl shared her knowledge by teaching classes in floral design and horticulture. Additionally, she volunteered time with the Eisenhower National Historic Site and Gettysburg Friends of the Library.
Caryl is survived by her children, Maureen (Richard) Alai, Thomas (Denise) O’Gara, Patricia (George) Mroczko, Kathleen (James) Gunselman, Brian (Nicole) O’Gara, and Sheila O’Gara as well as 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Church in South River NJ on Monday, October 20, 2025 at 10:30 AM. Family will receive guests at the church in the hour prior to the 10:30 AM Mass. Interment will be private.
