Carmen Cafiero, 100, a longtime resident of Jersey City and most recently of Point Pleasant, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025.
Born on July 16, 1925, in Madrid, Spain, Carmen lived a remarkable life marked by love, laughter, and resilience. During World War II, she worked as a seamstress and contributed to the war effort by helping to build bomb sights—an instrumental part of securing victory.
Carmen was predeceased by her beloved husband and life partner, Joseph Cafiero. She is survived by her devoted son, Robert Cafiero, who lovingly cared for her until her final days, and his partner, Allison Ely. She was the proud grandmother of Joseph Cafiero and his wife, Danielle, and the cherished great-grandmother—affectionately known as “GG”—to Tyler and Marley, whom she adored spending time with.
Carmen’s passions were as colorful as her personality. She had a deep love for animals, especially cats, and a fondness for trees and nature. She enjoyed capturing the joy of her friends and family through home movies and photographs. Fluent in both Spanish and English, Carmen was known for her quick wit, her warmth, and her ability to light up every room she entered. She was the life of the party, never afraid to “supervise” her son’s home projects, and she devoted her life wholeheartedly to her family.
This past summer, Carmen joyfully celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by loved ones—a milestone that perfectly reflected her strength and spirit. Her family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to her two wonderful caregivers, Nadia and Nina, for their companionship, kindness, and care.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter’s Church on Monday, October 13th at 11:30am to honor and celebrate Carmen’s beautiful life.
Carmen will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose legacy of love and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew.
